Toye W. Gibson

Toye W. Gibson, 78, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Wednesday afternoon, September 21st, 2016 in a local health care facility. She was born in Cleveland on June 23rd, 1938 a daughter of the late Bill & Lucile White. Toye was a 1956 graduate of Bradley Central High School where she served as a majorette in the marching band. She went on and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Toye was a faithful member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and a member of Varnell-Day Sunday School Class. She was a member for many years of the Cleveland-Athens Cotillion, member of Cleveland Women’s League, chair of the Broad Street flower committee, but most of all took great pride in her family and caring for each of them.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband Robert L. Gibson.
Toye leaves behind to cherish her memory three children Nicole Hargis and husband Don, Gray Gibson and his wife Randi and Richard McCauley, five grandchildren Alex Clark, Leah Hargis, Rylie Higgins, Drew Gibson and Madalyn Wilson-Patton (Jamey) of Nashville, TN, one sister Cele Curtis, two nephews Derek Curtis of Boston and Bret Curtis of Sacramento numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.
A celebration of her life is planned for Sunday, September 25th, 2016 at Broad Street United Methodist Church located at 155 Central Avenue NW in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Randy Martin and the Reverend Skip White officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Woody, Larry Fowler, Alan Goslen, Mark McClain, Pumpy Tudors and Thomas Clower serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of her Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the 3:00 PM service time in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to either the flower fund or the congregational care committee of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Toye’s memory.
