Lawrence Arthur "Larry" Or "Pat" Gardner

October 17, 1944 — September 24, 2016

Lawrence Arthur Gardner, “Pat” or “Larry” to friends and family, left this world on Sept. 24, 2016, surrounded by his family. He will forever be remembered for his selflessness and strength.
Originally from Philadelphia, TN, Larry served in the U.S. Army from June ’63 to Feb ’72 which included time in Germany as a flight instructor and in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He returned home to his family and worked as a locomotive electrician for 31 years before retiring from CSX Railroad. Most of that time he resided in Etowah, TN.
Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marion Gardner, his four children: Debbie Wagoner, Larry Gardner II, Nikki Gardner, and Kristie Smithers, and his nine grandchildren: Aaron Wagoner, Cameron Wagoner, Zachary McGill, Shanley McGill, Veronica Smithers, Taryn McGill, Victoria Smithers, Liam Gardner, and Larry Gardner III. He is also survived by his brothers and sister: John Gardner, Doug Gardner, Mike Gardner, Judy Scott, and Ronnie Gardner.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ethel Gardner, his brother, Ray Gardner, and his nephew, Paco Scott.
A memorial for close friends and family is tentively planned for October 8th at the Gardner home with no time determined yet.
