Lavern Davis

December 16, 1926 — September 12, 2017

Lavern Davis died on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the NHC HealthCare, Rossville.
Lavern was born in Cairo, Illinois on December 16, 1926 to John and Elizabeth Davis and had five brothers and four sisters, all of whom predeceased her. She moved to Chattanooga in 1946 and lived here until 1955 when she went to Fort Smith, Arkansas to work with The Rev. J. Harold Smith and The Radio Bible Hour. Thereafter, in the 1960s, she lived in Dallas; Los Angles; and Mobile. She returned to Chattanooga in 1970. She worked for CBL & Associates Properties, Inc for 23 years until her health declined three years ago.
Lavern was especially proud of her degree in business, the first in her family to go to a professional college. She was an efficient, loyal, and dedicated assistant, and her employers, happy to have her, were equally loyal to her. Her family wishes to thank Charles Lebovitz, John Foy, and Charles Willett at CBL for their support and generosity, and other loyal and caring friends, among many, Pam Bonine, Brenda Cowden, Angie Guffey, Betty Limbaugh, and Joan Perry. We also thank the nurses and assistants at NHC for their skilled and personal care.
Lavern was an avid University of Tennessee football fan and for over 25 years she went with Joan Perry to the games in Knoxville.
Lavern is survived by loving nieces and nephews in the Barger, Davis, Kirkland, and Thornbury families. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and devotion to them.
Friends and Family are invited to the Mountain City Club, 729 Chestnut Street, Chattanooga to honor Lavern on Thursday, September 14 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery on Thursday, September 21 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416 or to a charity of your choice.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Lavern or your condolences with her family at her online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral and Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist her family with these arrangements.
